Political turmoil in Haryana as floor test demanded in state assembly

Participating current Haryana deputy chief minister and the BJP partner, Dushyant Chautala, states that a floor test should be conducted in the state assembly. These recent episodes bring about more instability in the area. This demand came up as three independent MLAs left the BJP coalition camp, isolated questions about the government’s majority.

In his letter to Haryana’s Governor, Bandaru Dattatreya Bandaru, Chautala has recognized that resignations and withdrawals of the alliance members have made the majority party a minority now. He insisted that the floor vote should be executed immediately and individual legislators’ support should be decisive. The demand for an indirect test emanates from the recent move of three Independent MLAs from the Congress members.

In a press conference in Rohtak, Sombir Sangwan, Randhir Singh Gollen, and Dharampal Gonder resigned as members by withdrawing support from the BJP Government. The opposition leader Hooda Bhupinder Singh and the state Congress head Udai Bhan all joined the statement by the media.

In a sign of the state’s political turmoil, Chautala, the leader of the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), declared that his party is ready to assist the alternative government in power, indicating an alliance with the Congress leader.

Besides the Haryana Assembly comprising 90 constituencies with 88 members, the majority level is fixed at 45 members. Two MPs are short of the majority figure in the current coalition BJP, while Congress, which has 30 MLAs, could adopt and finally hold up to 43 MLAs in the final verdict with JJP’s support. Two MLAs remain unaligned. A Congress leader, Aftab Ahmed, who is seeking appointment, has communicated the same to the governor.
