A porter was arrested for allegedly raping a woman on a long-distance train at Bandra Terminus in Mumbai, police said on Sunday.
The incident occurred after the woman, middle-aged, came along with her son by an outstation train late on Saturday night. The woman then went inside another train parked on the other side of the platform. It was completely empty at the time, as confirmed by the GRP official.
However, the porter was present in that empty train and is accused of sexual assault according to the FIR. The suspected attacker managed to flee after allegedly assaulting the woman.
After the incident, she approached Bandra GRP police station and lodged a complaint. Immediate action is taken as railway police scanned the CCTV footage of several cameras to identify and arrest the accused.
“We are inquiring into the circumstances under which the woman boarded the other train after alighting at Bandra Terminus,” the GRP official said.
The arrested porter has been booked under rape under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The police have not disclosed more details of the incident as investigations are underway.
