Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Brunei Darussalam on Tuesday morning aimed for the first-ever bilateral visit of an Indian PM. The Crown Prince, who is Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, also welcomed him, emphasizing the importance of the event.
In November 2019, when coming to Brunei, Modi is expected to meet Brunei’s administration and government officials to discuss prospects for cooperation. Before the trip, he said he looked forward to the meeting. He said:
“Today I am launching my first bilateral visit to Brunei Darussalam to advance our long-standing partnership with this important partner and to meet with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and with other members of the Royal family on the sidelines of the 40th anniversary of the diplomatic relations. ”
As the Minister of External Affairs pointed out, this visit is expected to consolidate cooperation between the two nations in different spheres, such as defense, trade, investment, energy, space industry, healthcare, and cultural exchanges. Another concern is approaching more organizations for potential partnerships.
People of Indian origin enthusiastically waited for the prime minister and showed their pride in having him. Here, one of the members shared,
“Now we have been waiting for him for the past few years; we will see him now. ”
After all the engagements in Brunei, Modi will proceed to Singapore on Wednesday, where he will hold parleys with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, and other Singapore leaders.
