Prime Minister Modi slams Congress leader over atom bomb remark

During a rally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi pointed his finger at Mani Shankar Aiyar, the Congress leader, saying that it was the party that resorted to fear-mongering by asking the question: did Pakistan have enough atom bombs or not?

At a rally in the District of Odisha, Kandhamal, PM Modi repeatedly addressed the theme, “Congress says, “Pakistan has Atom Bomb! Beware.” He further parodied Pakistan’s crumbling economy, showing that being a world power does not automatically translate to having money and buyers for the poor quality of their atom bombs.

The root of this controversy is the old interview in which Aiyar claimed that India should engage in dialogue with Pakistan in a way that would not trigger the deployment of nuclear weapons by Pakistan since the result might be that Pakistan used them against India, which could lead to serious damage to India’s military capabilities.

The soothsayer advised that’ it cannot be just an “idiot” who could bluff an atomic bomb over Lahore without getting to Amritsar within seconds.’ The Congress party immediately dissociated itself from Mr Aiyar’s viewpoints, stressing that the BJP’s viewpoints were consistent with its official standpoint.

They also said that the BJP used the old interview for political advantage. Criticism by Modi of Aiyar’s uttering and focusing on Pakistan’s economic problems is a way to damage the opposition party and a sign that the government is prepared to deal with the security issues.
