Principal suspended in Tamil Nadu over viral toilet cleaning images

A principal in Tamil Nadu has been suspended after disturbing images of girl students cleaning school toilets surfaced. The incident happened in Palakkodu village in Dharmapuri district and has sparked widespread outrage.

The school caters to about 150 tribal students studying in Classes 1 to 8, but the institution has found itself at the centre of a furore since pictures of young girls in uniform sweeping away muck in restroom facilities began circulating on social media. Parents and residents staged protests outside the school demanding an inquiry.

Parents of some of the students appearing in the viral video filed a written complaint with the school education department stating that the headmistress had assigned the children to clean toilets, sweep the floor, and fetch water.

The villagers, in reaction to the incident, came out into the streets, carrying placards and shouting slogans, demanding immediate action against the headmistress. They said such responsibilities should never be given to young students, especially girls, in a school.

Following the furore, the CEO, Dharmapuri district, ordered an inquiry into the incident. The DEO confirmed the suspension of the headmistress and said a full-scale inquiry would be conducted to sort out the issue.
