Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday, December 16, raised serious allegations, stating that a historic photograph depicting the surrender of the Pakistan Army to Indian forces during the 1971 war has been removed from the Army headquarters. The revelation during the winter session of Parliament also coincides with Vijay Diwas, a day celebrated in honor of India’s victory over Pakistan.
During Zero Hour, referring to it, Gandhi said, “Today, that picture has been removed from the Army headquarters where the Pakistan Army is surrendering before the Indian Army.” She took this opportunity to pay homage to the soldiers and martyrs who fought in the pivotal conflict.
Gandhi saluted the brave soldiers who fought for us in the war of 1971. “I want to salute the brave soldiers who fought for us in the war of 1971. At that time, the voices of our Bengali brothers and sisters in Bangladesh were not being heard. Indira Gandhi, as Prime Minister, displayed immense courage and leadership that ultimately led to our victory.
Vijay Diwas is celebrated every year on December 16 to mark the victory of India over Pakistan that also led to the liberation of Bangladesh. Gandhi, in her speech, also demanded that the rights of Hindu and Christian minorities in Bangladesh be taken up. She called upon the government to speak up against the atrocities committed on these communities, seeking engagement in dialogue and solidarity with the victims.
If the day’s controversies were not enough, Priyanka Gandhi was seen carrying a bag with “Palestine” emblazoned on it boldly inside Parliament to show solidarity with the Palestinian cause. The bag had Palestinian emblems, including a watermelon, which is considered a unity symbol of Palestinians. In fact, Gandhi has been very vocal about her concerns on Israel’s actions in Gaza and has always come out in open support of the Palestinian people.
