On Sunday, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra addressed an election rally in Mananthavady, Wayanad, and said the people of Wayanad fathom that her brother Rahul Gandhi is fighting for the truth.
While addressing the gathering, she said, “When a big movement was run against my brother, you knew he was standing for truth.” Rahul Gandhi also embarked on campaigning with Priyanka for the Lok Sabha by-elections.
Priyanka announced that she would contest the Wayanad seat after Rahul decided to vacate it following his win in both Wayanad and Rae Bareli in recent elections. She promised to address urgent issues, including pressing for improved medical facilities at the Wayanad Medical College and job shortages.
She also declared new road construction and mitigation of human-animal conflicts in the region of Wayanad. “Rahul Gandhi has shown the way by raising your concerns in Parliament. The challenge is that governments are failing to act in the people’s best interests,” she said.
She attacked the Centre, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing the government of working for big businessmen. “PM Modi’s government is not trying to improve health services, living standards, or employment prospects.
Its objective is to keep power via dividing, anger, and hatred,” she said. “He is taking land and ports from you and handing them over to business tycoons.” The rally also saw Rahul Gandhi, who pitched Priyanka as the “best possible MP” for the constituency.
In the coming by-polls, Priyanka Gandhi will face BJP candidate Navya Haridas and Sathyan Mokeri, the LDF candidate from CPI. Voting for the Wayanad by-polls is set for November 13, and results will be counted on November 23.
