Priyanka Gandhi said she used to work with Mother Teresa’s organization after being inspired by her.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra shared an endearing story about Mother Teresa while campaigning in Wayanad, Kerala. At an election meeting, she said the late icon had visited her house months after her father, Rajiv Gandhi, was assassinated and requested that she work for the poor.
“I have come here to express gratitude for the love bestowed upon me. Three days back, I had come to submit the nomination paper. On the way, I met various people.
One of the people I met was someone from the Army. He told me that he had been desirous to meet me, but that lady could not walk. I reached his house and embraced his mother.
She embraced me as if I were her child. I could swear to you that there wasn’t a single difference between the mother of mine and the mother who embraced me over there. I felt as though I had a mother at Wayanad. It is due to the treatment meted out by all of you,” she concluded.
She handed me a rosary-give to my mother. I felt the same as I was at 19 years of age. Six-seven months had passed after my father’s death; Mother Teresa had come to my house and met with my mother. I had a fever and was bedridden in my room.
She entered my room and laid her hand on my head. She grasped my hand and placed a rosary that looked exactly like this inside it. She asked me to serve her. So, 5-6 years passed, and I went across the place to serve her sisters. My work was to instruct children.
We also used to clean bathrooms and food. The more I came to know this community, the more agony they were carrying, what definition service takes, and what it is helping them.
I saw the community helping each other in Wayanad after a landslide. All of you helped one another. It is praiseworthy; it shows how people here are bold, she said.
