Kolkata:

As the country reacts to the heinous rape and murder of a 31-year-old doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, senior Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said the incident was ‘heartbreaking’ and called on the Trinamool Congress government for immediate justice in the case.

In a post on X, Ms. Gandhi Vadra wrote, “The sexual assault and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata is painfully sad.

The issue of women’s safety at the workplace is an area that needs concerted effort. Listening to the victim’s family and colleagues, I urge the state government to immediate and severe action so that justice prevails for everyone.”

The senior Congress leader made this remark at a time when there was a huge uproar over the rape-murder that occurred in a government-run hospital. Facilitating doctors all over India have raised their working conditions and have sought justice for the case.

The main opposition BJP has come down heavily on the Mamata Banerjee government and sought a CBI probe into the case. The Left has also demanded the conduct of an investigation by the central agency.

One of the allies of the Trinamool at the Center has also voiced on the issue that has put the national limelight.
