An LPG cylinder placed on the tracks close to a crossing at Kanpur was run over by a train on Monday while, later on Sunday night, police recovered a stockpile of suspect items, which included something resembling gunpowder and petrol-filled bottles from the same tracks.
Following the leakage, the Maharashtra ATS, IB, and STF tried to find whether it was an act of terrorism intended to blow up a train carrying explosives or fake news options in which an influencer wanted to go viral.
Railway and investigation authorities anthropomorphosis resembles Sunday’s calamity to the previous accident that occurred on August 17 at Kanpur station, where twenty coaches of the Sabarmati Express rolled off between Kanpur and Bhimsen in UP after slamming an object on the rail line.
Fortunately, there were no losses of life or injuries reported on the site.
“The moment some top officials got to know about the event, they quickly visited the scene of the event and started probing more into the matter,” added DCP West Zone, Kanpur Commissionerate, Rajesh Kumar Singh.
Singh added that other than other investigating agencies, the forensic team has also been summoned, and RPF is also investigating the matter.
IG ATS Nilabja Chaudhary said it must have been a deliberate attempt of sabotage since an attempt to throw a bomb to derail the train was made.
The accident took place yesterday on Sunday when the Kalindi Express (14117) coming from Prayagraj to Bhiwani hit a gas cylinder that was placed on the track on the Anwarganj-Kasganj route at Kanpur’s Shivrajpur. As per the police report, the train knocked the cylinder at about 8.
In the 30pm, just across the Munderi and near the area of the police station limits of the Sarjapur. “The loco pilot needed to bring it to a standstill and blow the whistle,” a police officer added.
