In a recent twist in the case, the Pune Police termed in a local court that the father of the 17-year-old boy who was involved in an accident that claimed the lives of two members of the information technology fraternity asked his driver to let his son drive his Porsche Taycan.
This happened on Sunday when the Porsche car that had no number plate, the underage teenager, was alleged to have caused the death of Ashwini Koshta and Aneesh Awadhia.
According to police records seen by the Times of India, the father was contacted by the driver, who reported that the teenager wanted to drive the car. The father then allegedly demanded that the driver allow the minor to drive the car.
The Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) heard the matter and has since withdrawn the bail of the above 17-year-old, who has been remanded to a remand home for 14 days. Similarly, the Pune Police have appealed to the court that the teenager should be tried as an adult.
Additionally, police have charged the father with negligence and child endangerment for letting the minor drive without a license. The surviving mother of the victims, Savitha Awadhiya, has termed the incident as “murder” and called for rigorous justice to be delivered on the perpetrators.
This has called for a revision of the laws and the government to enhance the laws to prevent such accidents with underage drivers.
