Pune Court grants bail to Porsche accident accused’s father

Recently, a Pune court allowed the bail of Vishal Agarwal, the father of a teenager who was accused of mowing down two engineers using a Porsche on May 19 in Kalyani Nagar. Agarwal has been arrested under section 187 of the Motor Vehicles Act and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act for negligence in his duties as a guardian.

The said accident happened in the early morning of May 19 and led to the death of two IT professionals, including Anish Awadhiya and Ashwini Costa from Madhya Pradesh.

The respondent involved as a driver was identified to be 17 years old and is said to have been driving ASAR under the influence of alcohol and endorsements without a CH70 before hitting the victims.

Preliminary findings suggest that the Porsche that was newly bought in March for the teenager had not been registered and taxed because Agarwal had not paid the Rs 44 lakh road tax. Also, the minor son’s driving license was not valid as required by the Court.

On June 14, the Pune court forwarded the teenager’s parents and another accused, Ashpak Makandar, to a 14-day judicial remand.

They are accused of replacing the teenager’s blood samples to demonstrate that the teenager was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Makandar is said to have facilitated communication between the Agarwals and other medical practitioners at Sassoon General Hospital, where the blood samples were taken.

That said, initially, the Juvenile Justice Board was lenient with the teenager and allowed him to be bailed to stay with his parents and grandparents and write an essay of no less than 300 words on road safety.

However, the police asked for a change of the bail order. The board later granted an order for the boy to be arrested and taken to an observation home, where he is to date until June 25.
