The Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, has clearly stated that Congress has many similarities with BJP, especially on key issues on foreign policies like relations with America, no talks with Pakistan till terror ends, and the existence of Islamic State-like organizations in Bangladesh and Israel.
However, Gandhi disagreed with the incumbent Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s position on China and asserted that the Chinese troops are actually still intruding into the Indian territory into the border region of Ladakh, which is roughly the same size as Delhi.
In the press briefing at the National Press Club after Gandhi’s unofficial four-day visit to the U.S., Gandhi reechoed Modi’s view on Pakistan, noting that terrorism on the border had had a very negative impact on relations. “We will not tolerate terror attacks on our land by Pakistan,” he said and ruled out the Key Kashmir dispute as an impediment to talks between the two nations.
On the India-U. S relationship, Gandhi pointed out that there is little variation and the continuation of the previous administration’s approach and said, “I don’t see a big divergence. ” Gandhi underlined India’s struggle for democracy as an internal struggle; therefore, it is a global issue.
Speaking about the recent violence in the Middle East, Gandhi spoke against any targeting of civilians, asserting that such actions are actually damaging Israel more than they are aiding it. Filleting Modi on the China issue, he said that the continuing occupation of the Indian territory by the Chinese is a major blunder in the management of foreign policy.
However, as far as Bangladesh is or will be, Gandhi also recognized such concern over the extremism, though he posited positively on future relations, urging to put a halt to violence in the area.
