Rahul Gandhi links Parbhani violence victim’s death to Dalit identity

Rahul Gandhi met the family of Somnath Suryawanshi, who allegedly died in judicial custody after violence in Maharashtra’s Parbhani.

Opposition Lok Sabha leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday met the family of Somnath Suryawanshi, who allegedly died in judicial custody after violence in Parbhani, Maharashtra, earlier this month.
Addressing a presser, Congress leader hit out at Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh,

He also claimed that he was killed because he is a Dalit and is fighting to protect the Constitution. No politics is being done. The ideology is responsible because the Chief Minister has made this statement. Hence, the Chief Minister is responsible, those who have killed him are responsible, and action should be taken as soon as possible,” ANI quoted Gandhi as saying.

The Congress leader said that he had met the families of those killed and beaten up and had seen the post-mortem report, videos and photographs. He claimed that Suryakant’s demise was a “100 per cent custodial death”.
