SC notice on plea to cancel NEET-UG 2024 over alleged paper leak

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court notified the center and the National Testing Agency NTA concerning the petition to cancel the NEET UG 2024 entrance exam results. This has come at this time when the examination system has been marred by paper leakages that have led to some persons questioning the professionalism of examinations.

While appreciating the legal position, the court said that the sanction to (the examination) has been compromised. ..so we need answers. Nevertheless, the process of counseling for admissions will remain unaffected.

The fresh petition, filed by students from the two Telugu states, has alleged that there has been partiality in assessment and bringing in more marks. The petitioners had listed several issues, including variation in awarding of grace marks, lack of real and tangible criteria, and getting high, nearly impossible scores like 720/720.

In this context, the petitioners also demonstrated that 67 students from a particular coaching center obtained an ideal score and highlighted that a provisional answer key was challenged by over 13,000 students to suggest an alternative answer.

The plea highlighted the serious consequences thus,

“Cheating or using unfair means to pass an exam may lead to dire consequences such as lack of competence which in turn can jeopardize the lives of patients.”

Self-acclaimed whistleblower lists many allegations concerning the NEET-UG 2024 examination at the altar of SC, and the authenticity of the claims throws the credibility of the examination into jeopardy, thus affecting prospective medical students.

On the other hand, the NTA has deduced the further formation of a committee to study the complaints of 1,600 students who appeared for the exam.
