Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was targeted in a security breach this morning at an event in Bengaluru when a 24-year-old man charged toward the stage. Security agents responded quickly to ensure that the person did not get close to the chief minister when he was conducting the ‘International Day of Democracy’.
The man, who has been named Mahadeva from Talgatpura in Kanakpura, has been named to be a follower of Siddaramaiah and was carrying a shawl that he was planning to gift to Siddaramaiah had in his hand when he went near the stage. Police have arrested Mahadeva currently conducting an identity check on the man.
In his speech at the event, Siddaramaiah criticized his government’s priority of nurturing democracy and secularism in the state. ‘This attack on these values still continues,’ he said. We must continue to stay alert and united and work towards making Karnataka the garden of each and every community.’
As part of the celebrations, people formed a human chain stretching 2,500 km, which the Karnataka government said was a world record as a symbol of equality, unity, and fraternity for all 31 districts of the state. Siddaramaiah and many other senior ministers came forward to participate in the human chain conducted in front of the renowned Vidhana Soudha in Bangalore. They substantiated the same with a stronger message.
