The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, or the SGPC, has voiced concern over the attacks on Sikhs and ‘insecurity’ among Sikhs residing in Canada, urging India and Canada to work in tandem to resolve the issue and put an end to attacks on community members.
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, the apex governing body of the gurdwaras, expressed its concern over the attacks on Sikhs in Canada and Flagged “insecurity” among the people of the community living in that country.
This is moved in the general house meeting of the newly elected general body of the committee under Harjinder Singh Dhami on Monday, through which the SGPC opposed the “anti-Sikh forces” that are eroding the history, customs, and principles of Sikhism.
The SGPC also urges India and the North American nations to work with it on this issue.
“Both India and Canada should cooperate to sort out these problems and try to make Sikhs residing there feel safe,” the SGPC said while holding a meeting at the Golden Temple, Sikhs’ holiest shrine in Punjab’s Amritsar.
India-Canada deteriorating relations affecting Punjabis
The Economic Times quotes Dhami as saying that the deteriorating relations between India and Canada have taken a heavy toll on a large number of Indians, especially Punjabis, during the meeting.
He had earlier appealed for both countries to adopt a sincere and rational approach to the issue and avoid making accusations against each other.
