Shami’s omission: Ex-India star questions fitness

Mohammed Shami will be a part of India’s squad for the ICC Champions Trophy. Mohammed Shami had more attention than needed since the selection of India’s squad for T20Is against England. However, the dynamic pacer was not seen in an action game as injury after the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup against Australia kept him back.

He even faced ankle surgery before a knee issue led him to miss out on the Border Gavaskar Trophy. He returned decently in domestic cricket and even got a place in the Champions Trophy squad, but Shami was not in the Indian team for the first T20I against England. Shami is not playing.

Not 100% fit for today. India has opted to play only one frontline pacer in Arshdeep. Hardik-Nitish is the two other pace options. England have fielded 4 proper pacers. Both captains seeing the pitch differently??” he wrote on X.

India has chosen to play only one frontline pacer in Arshdeep. Hardik-Nitish are the two other pace options. At the toss, India captain Suryakumar Yadav did not mention Shami’s absence but mentioned playing to one’s strengths.

“We will look to bowl first. The wicket looks sticky; there will be dew later on. It will be heavier later on. The boys have been amazing. The preparations have been good, looking forward to this series. It’s going to be a great competition between both sides. A good headache, we want to stick to our strengths,” he said.
