The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) does not require a CM face before the Maharashtra Assembly: Sharad Pawar. This statement comes while the Shiv Sena (UBT), which is part of the Maha alliance, wants Uddhav Thackeray as the opposition’s CM candidate.
Pawar stated that the Chief Minister should be the head of the party that wins a majority of the seats in the elections — a proposal that was not well received by the Shiv Sena (UBT). He said.
‘’It is possible not to announce the CM candidate. There must be reliance on the results of the election. There is no need to make arrangements before the election,’’
Certainly, listing historical antecedents, Pawar cited the post-emergency situation when the Janata Party had announced Morarji Desai as Prime Minister during the Lok Sabha elections but had not declared it during the campaign. He continued.
“We will make a partnership to work and, with the support of the people, to build a steady government,”
The persistent concern about the chief ministerial candidate has put the MVA in a precarious place, especially regarding the Congress party. Sources say that the Shiv Sena (UBT) wants Thackeray to be its candidate, while Congress wants him to head the party’s election campaign.
In an MVA meeting recently, Thackeray said he is okay with backing any CM candidate named by the Congress or the NCP – under Pawar’s leadership. The Maharashtra CM, Devendra Fadnavis, said it so boldly today, “I appeal to all the alliance leaders, whether it is Mr Prithviraj Chavan or Mr Sharad Pawar, let them declare their choice for Chief Minister, and I will back them blindly”, quipped Thackeray.
Thackeray was removed as Chief Minister in 2022 after his party’s political mutiny brought down the MVA government.
