Congress MP Shashi Tharoor faces criticism over alleged UP ‘insult.’
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor is facing criticism from BJP leaders for allegedly insulting Uttar Pradesh in a social media post.
On Twitter, Tharoor had shared a cartoon taking a jibe at multiple exam paper leaks. It depicted UP as a state “where answers are known before exams”.
Tharoor’s remarks aimed at the Centre over NEET and other test issues. However, BJP leaders have accused him of unfairly running down UP.
Jitin Prasada called the post “condemnable” for stereotyping UP people. Rajeev Chandrashekar termed it “shameless politics”.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma took a dig at Tharoor, saying he “frequently indulges in satirizing cultures”. CR Kesavan alleged Tharoor had “insulted” North East culture earlier, implying UP residents cheating was “indefensible”.
Rajasthan minister Rathore said Tharoor “doesn’t see UP as his own” by making such remarks. The controversy has sparked a debate on political leaders’ comments on states and cultures amid UP’s strong reaction over the alleged slur.
