Shooter Manu Bhaker receives grand welcome, eyes LA 2028 olympics

Anu Bhaker gulped two medals at the Paris Olympics to become the first Indian in post-independence times to have won two medals in a single Olympics.

The Haryanvi sensation and newly-crowned Paris Olympics double medalist pistol shooter Manu Bhaker arrived in India on Wednesday and got a grand welcome. Bhaker was able to win two medals at the Paris Olympics, which made her the first Indian after the post-Independence to have a winning streak of two for one Olympics.

Sharp at 9:20 in the morning, the Indira Gandhi International Airport saw the arrival of Air India direct flight number AI 142, on which Bhaker had come from Paris, but the flight arrived an hour behind its scheduled time.

Ninety to a hundred people were already attending at the airport prior to her arrival, even with the early morning rain in the city.

Present on the occasion were Bhaker’s parents, Ram Kishan and Sumedha, and sports lovers and officials from many of the states with the neighboring Uttarakhand, from where Bhaker’s private coach, Jaspal Rana, also arrived here alongside her.

Rana’s father was also present at the airport during the shootout between the police and the kidnappers.

Some people started congregating the airport much earlier than she was due for arrival; they danced, sang, and clashed drums for Bhaker and cheered her on by holding banners with photos of Bhaker and Rana.
