Before the arrival of the Parliament Elections of Sikkim, political parties in this quite state are closing the negotiations about the distribution of seats. A game-changer move of the prevailing Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) was to come up with their list of candidates for all 32 assembly seats and the lone Lok Sabha constituency in the beautiful Himalayan region. The election will turn out to be one captivating battleground in that zone.
The parliamentary board of the SKM parliamentary board has come up with significant decisions on candidate selection, which are noteworthy. Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has been nominated to contest from not one but two assembly constituencies: Akong-Chakung and Ratong. There is a further enticement to her run, who was the wife of Krishna Kumari Rai, will face Pawan Kumar Chamling, who comes as five-term CM and the president of the opposition Sikkim Democratic Front from Namchi-Singhithang constituency. The fight between these two political big shots promises to make this game a real thriller.
The SKM’s candidate electoral debut consists of many ministers trying to solicit the public votes in the upcoming race. Equally influential, the Chieftain of Sonar – Aditya Golay, is also contesting from the same seat after Soreng – Chakung constituency was allotted to Tamang himself.
Another thing the SKM has done is recognize the role three of the defected Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members played in giving them tickets to contest the elections from the pivotal constituencies. Thapa Rajkumari, Venchungpa Sonam, and Lepcha Pinsto Namgal have been announced as the Rangang-Yangyang, Martam-Rumtek, and Dzongu constituency candidates.
The new distribution of seats that the SKM has offered in particular places arises from some tactical moves. The posts of two ministers, Bishnu Kharel appointed as Rhenock and Karma Loden Bhutia from Kabi Lungchuk, have been replaced. The chief minister Tamang is making a bid now from Kharel’s former seat, and Lok Sahgal Samiti member TT Bhutia has replaced (Jwala) Karma Loden Bhutia.
SKM, having new election figures, for example, Tshering Thendup Bhutia for the Yoksam-Tashiding seat and Sudesh Kumar Subba for the Maneybung—Dentam constituency, desires to maintain its position and, therefore, secure success in the forthcoming elections.
Sikkim, even before the polls actually take place, is centered around SKM’s contenders and political lineup, which will define the future of this tiny north India state.
