The resulting elections in Rajasthan were straightforward. Congress leader Sonia Gandhi won unopposed entry into the Rajya Sabha. Besides, Bharatiya Janata Party’s Chunni Lal Garasia and Madan Rathore also won unopposed seats in the Rajya Sabha. Assembly Secretary Mahavir Prasad Sharma confirmed the news.
Tuesday was the last day for nominations. As no other candidates contested, the nomination of the three candidates was certain, continuing the existing political momentum in the state.
Rajya Sabha seats became available to everyone for two reasons. First, BJP’s Kirodi Lal Meena resigned in December after winning the second assembly seat on April 3 after Congress’s Manmohan Singh and BJP’s Bhupendra Yadav expired.
The Congress has 70 MLAs, and the BJP has 115 MLAs in the 200-member Rajasthan Assembly. Consequently, the Congress has 6 MLAs, and the BJP has 4 MLAs in the Rajya Sabha elections.
Taking their place in the upper house, the newly elected representatives will shape the state’s policies and laws, influencing Rajasthan’s voice in the central government.
This Rajya Sabha election went as expected, but the actions of the elected members will determine whether political equality in the state continues.
