TMC MP Mahua Moitra has received another summons from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding alleged Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) violations, sources say.
This is the second time the economic investigation agency has questioned the firebrand leader over the same case.
The complaint against her involves alleged irregularities in receiving funds from abroad while working for an NGO nearly a decade ago.
Moitra has termed the case against her as politically motivated and an attempt to muzzle her outspoken criticism of the central government.
However, the ED continues its probe about the source of funds received by the NGO from 2009-2015 and whether all due procedures under FEMA were followed.
As Moitra joined a delegation to meet the Election Commission over Opposition issues, the ED summons is seen as an attempt to discredit dissenting voices.
With national elections looming, the spotlight is once more on the fiery leader known for taking the fight to rivals through spirited debates.
