 SP Distances Itself from Leader accused of attempted rape of minor

Uttar Pradesh police have arrested ex-Samajwadi Party MLA Nawab Singh Yadav for an alleged attempt to rape a minor girl in Kannauj. An FIR has been lodged under sections 9 and 14 of the POCSO Act.

Nawab Singh Yadav, who belongs to Kannauj district in Uttar Pradesh, has been arrested on account of attempting to rape a minor.

The occurrence was in the Sadar Kotwali, the area of the former block chief who is suspected to have committed the act.

The girl is a minor, and she seems to be around 15 years of age since the accused said she is 16 years old. Since the accused was claimed to be an acquaintance of Kannauj MP and ex-UP CM Akhilesh Yadav, the Samajwadi Party, where he belongs, dumped him.

Superintendent of Police (SP) of Kannauj Amit Kumar Anand said the following about the event: “Last night at 1.30 am, the UP 112 received a call from a girl saying she was stripped and attempted to be assaulted.

The Kannauj Police arrived at the site immediately and rescued the girl, where the accused, Nawab Singh Yadav, was arrested in objectionable condition. In the questioning process, the girl mentioned that
