This is narrated in a criminal complaint from the ex-CRPF constabulary of Bihar: Outraging residents of Harpur Village in the Saran district of Bihar, a man has electrified a wire that killed four strays on July 3.
The complainant, Sushil Kumar Singh, accused his neighbour Amren Singh, a farmer, of previous acts of cruelty toward the stray dogs, particularly in the village. They added that Kumar once dragged pencils over the puppies and threatened and attempted to assault her because she tended to the dogs, Sushil said.
The mishap took place around 21. 00 house on July 3 when Amren Singh used an electric current to pass through the fence that enclosed an agricultural field ten yards from Sushil’s home in Bhati Kisan camp. “One after another, four dogs were electrocuted. That was when I decided to lodge an FIR,” Sushil said.
Therefore, the outcome desired from the Ekma police station was not initially encouraging, as the force was sluggish in its reaction. It was only after Sushil met PETA India that they decided to register the case under the section of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
Sushil has vowed to continue with the case and said that he will now fight for justice for the innocent dogs whatever it costs to hire a lawyer. In another disturbing incident, animal rights have again been brought to the forefront concerning the country’s poor implementation of animal welfare laws.
