Video clips have revealed that the shooter started moving slowly toward Badal, who was sitting in a wheelchair due to the fracture in his leg while extracting a gun from the pocket of his trousers.
Leader of Shiromani Akali Dal, Sukhbir Singh Badal, had a hairbreadth escape on Wednesday when one person fired bullets targeting him while he was working as a ‘sewadar’ near the Golden Temple of Punjab on Wednesday. The shooter has been identified as Narain Singh Chaura, who missed the target when some bystanders overpowered him.
Footage showed the shooter slowly walking towards Sukhbir Singh Badal, who was sitting in a wheelchair due to a fractured leg, and pulling out a gun from his pocket. A man standing near Sukhbir Singh Badal quickly intervened and grabbed the attacker’s hands. In the melee, a bullet hit the wall behind Badal, who escaped unhurt.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said on X, reacting to the incident, “Punjab Police prevented a major incident from happening today. As a result of the promptness of the Punjab Police, the conspiracy to defame Punjab and Punjabis has failed.”
“The police have done a very good job by arresting the attacker on the spot. I appreciate the promptness of the police; I strongly condemn the attack on Sukhbir Badal. I have instructed the police to investigate the incident and submit a report immediately,” CM Mann said.
