Supreme Court pulls up NTA over NEET exam irregularities

In a recent blast, the Supreme Court has squarely commented on the National Testing Agency (NTA) over alleged cheating scandals in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for medical colleges.

On the hearing of the petitions in connection with the exam, the SC bench led by Justices Vikram Nath and SVN Bhatti took umbrage at the manner of NTA in handling the issue. But if there is the slightest amount of negligence, be it 0. 001%, it must be addressed over the slightest of complaints promptly and fairly, the court said.

The Supreme Court emphasized that given the NTA’s responsibility for the exam, the agency advocating for the changes must accept blame for any errors made and demonstrate the steps to be taken to rectify them.

This, the bench said, having urged the NTA representatives to state that where there is a mistake, yes, this is a mistake, and this is the corrective action we will take: That instills confidence in your performance.

The court also noted the hard work done by the students, adding that ‘a person who has cheated the system becomes a doctor and is more pernicious to society. ‘

The new date will be set on July 8, and the Supreme Court hopes that NTA will be able to clarify the alleged irregularities following high-standard procedures. Due to having doubts about this paper’s leakage and the difference in scores obtained, the NEET results have fueled the student organizations’ protest.
