Supreme court upholds NEET exam, rejects calls for Re-test

NEET-UG 2024 Exam: Chief Justice DY Shadrach speaking the verdict stated that there was indeed leakage of question paper in two centers, Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh and Patna in Bihar.
New Delhi:

The top court said it has found no material that provides any information of a ‘systemic breach’ or that the ‘sanctity’ of the NEET-UG was compromised following two localized leaks of question papers and therefore dismissed any possibility of a re-test for the 2024 examination.

The court, while noting that it is not in dispute that the question paper was leaked, said no material exists on record at this time to give the determination that the result of the exam was tainted or there was a systematic infringement of the inviolability of the exam.

“Records available in this case do not pronounce large-scale leakage of the question paper, which otherwise wipes off the sanctity of the examination,”

the court stated.

The court was concerned with a bunch of petitions that sought either rescheduling or cancellation of the NEET-UG test—an entrance examination for the undergraduate medical programs.

Appeal on NEET-UG Re-Test Will Have Daunting Implication

The bench, presided over by Chief Justice DY Chandra Hud, therefore, said that an order would have to be made for a re-test of 23.

This will indeed have ‘big consequences’ on the dreams of a minimum 33 lakh young aspirants, a majority of whom, like many students previously who had to travel hundreds of kilometers to sit for examinations in their center town/taluka/taluk, are aspiring to be medical professionals.
