Congress leader Supriya Shrinate questions BJP over offensive remarks against Mamata.
Facing flak over her social media posts targeting actor-politician Kangana Ranaut, Congress communication department head Supriya Shrinate has hit out at the BJP. Shrinate questioned if the saffron party will condemn West Bengal BJP MP Dilip Ghosh’s derogatory remarks against state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Ghosh, who was recently replaced as Bengal BJP chief, had said “decide who your father is” while objecting to Mamata’s visits to Goa and Tripura where she had called herself their ‘daughter’.
The Trinamool Congress slammed Ghosh for “venting frustration” after being removed from his constituency. Leader Sushmita Dev termed Ghosh’s remarks against the country’s only woman CM as against political traditions.
Dev asked the Women’s Commission chief why she remained silent over BJP insulting Mamata when concerned about the party’s candidate.
Shrinate also questioned BJP’s silence over allegations of sexual harassment levelled against its MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh by wrestlers.
Her remarks come amid the row over her social media posts targeting Kangana, which she claimed were done without her knowledge. Shrinate said she can never make personal comments against any woman.
The National Commission for Women has sought immediate strict action by the EC against those making disrespectful remarks about any woman. It said upholding dignity for all women is important.
