Justice Bhalla commented that the least number of jobs were added during 2004–2013, i.e., the UPA government time period, and that’s when the term ‘jobless growth’ came into existence.
New Delhi: A legend in himself and former IMF Executive Director Surjit Bhalla, who has been advising the Modi-led government since its very beginning Sunday said that close to ten million jobs are being created on average during the past seven-eight years under Modi’s administration.
Mr. Bhalla further said that the fewest number of jobs were created during the period of 2004–2013 (the UPA government period), which was the time when we started using the term “jobless growth.”.
“Approximately 10 million jobs have been generated on average during the Modi administration, which never happened in the history of India. This is remarkable, and given the popularity generated, it is they who would stand the chance of emerging as the next prime minister,” he said in an interview with PTI.
Mr. Bhalla, who used to be a part of the economic advisory council to the prime minister (EAC-PM), made a reveling statement that a maximum number of jobs was created under the leadership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and PM Narendra Modi.
Hence, the recent ILO report indicated that the country’s youth unemployment ratios in 2022 were as high as 82.5 percent.
He said, “You could see the data of the age group of youth after 29 years, and I can tell you that the unemployment rate has not budged a bit in the last three years in India, which is the most populous country in the world, and I would like to add that the workforce of India, which almost constitutes about 65% of the world’s population, is somewhere around 1%.”
In respect to the youth, he said they need an opportunity for a better life through a better job.
