Suspected serial killer targets women in Bareilly, India

How horrific that nine women have been murdered within the last 14 months in a mere rural area of Bareilly district; hence, the police are forced to check into the possibility of the presence of a serial killer.

The male victims, aged between 45 and 55 years, were found half-naked, strangled to death in the fields at mid-day, but the news said there was no attempt made to sexually molest them.

It has been established that all the offenses have taken place 25 km within the coverage area, consisting of villages falling under two particular police stations. Such a pattern has made the authorities think that there might have been a connection between the killings.

Uttar Pradesh’s Director General of Police, Prashant Kumar, said to the reporters that the police have been probing these incidents for the last six months, and they also consider the possibility of having the involvement of a serial killer since the creation of all crimes are almost similar.

Kumar said that his teams have been working on this case for six months and said that there is a probability of a serial killer because even the modus operandi of these murders seems to be the same.

This refers to criminals who kill two or more people at a time or on different occasions with the primary goal of getting psychological satisfaction. Criminals normally manifest certain characteristics in the kind of victims they select and how they commit the crime.

Since independence, India has not been spared of the menace of serial killers, with the recent one being Ravinder Kumar, who was arrested in 2015 for raping and murdering a six-year-old girl in Delhi.

Ravinder Kumar later admitted to having raped and murdered at least 30 other children in the states of Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh within the eight-year span. Most shocking to the investigators was the seemingly accurate depiction of these crimes in this man’s drawings and details that could be found in the police database.

Since Bareilly’s case is being followed, the authorities are not sparing any efforts to catch the anti-social element and stop this series of brutal murders.
