The famous actor Tamannaah Bhatia was called to the headquarters of the Maharashtra Cyber department concerning the illegal iEMBED 3, the wrong the right show of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) on the Fairplay app. The app is an “offshoot” of the online gaming and betting platform Mahadev, which is developed and operated by it.
Tamannaah, who achieved fame and recognition through her magnificent portrayals in the film Baahubali, has been requested to attend the notice heard on April 29. This summons was issued after pop star and rapper Badshah gave a previous interview in the same case. Similarly, another actor has been summoned this week—it is Sanjay Dutt. Yet, he has asked for additional time to manifest before the department.
The probe’s spotlight is directed towards Fairplay app advertisements and promotion across different celebrities and artists, impeding the problem that the Fairplay app lacks official IPL broadcasting rights. Such illegal streaming, however, has turned out to be a main reason for the financial losses that the official broadcasters have encountered.
Last year, dissatisfied model Viacom18 turned to FIR filing when growing IPR holders for streaming IPL matches them. The complaint brought this issue to discern that the Fairplay app was illegally streaming the IPL matches, and the affected loss to Viacom18 was in the range of Rs 100 crore.
The FIR put several notable personalities like Badshah, Sanjay Dutt, and Jacqueline Fernandez under drum beats of investigation assures. In December 2023, a mediator from the company’s application was arrested.
The investigations continue when the officials intend to expose the illegal pamphlets and prosecute the offenders for the moral harm done to the mainstream entertainment providers.
