Tamil Nadu Governor expresses concern over drug menace
Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi has expressed alarm over the prevalence of drug abuse in the state. In a statement on Thursday, he said recent seizures by central agencies of large narcotics quantities in Tamil Nadu and elsewhere had confirmed the worst fears about drugs.
The Governor said parents of school and college students had shared their worries with him over the last year regarding drugs on campuses and in entertainment venues.
He referred to international cartels operating in the state for illegal drug trafficking. These substances are highly addictive and destructive, he cautioned, threatening to destroy future generations if left unchecked.
Ravi stated drug abuse often leads to other heinous crimes. The menace demands acute urgency and topmost priority to be addressed. He stressed that while central and state agencies will continue efforts, educational institution management and families must remain vigilant against such drugs.
Youths are primary targets, so parents need extra care to detect signs of abuse inward, he advised. The Governor appealed to youths to shun temptations that would ruin their and their families’ lives irreparably.
Management has a special duty to ensure drugs do not enter campuses or nearby areas, he added, seeking everyone’s cooperation against the menace for people’s and the state’s future.
