Teacher arrested for sexual assault of students in Akola

A school teacher of Akola was arrested on Tuesday from Balapur taluka of Maharashtra for sexually harassing at least six of his female students besides exposing them to obscene content.

As per the police record, Sardar had been sexually abusing his students for nearly four months, which was unearthed subsequent to the reception of a complaint toll by a child helpline. The accusations include the following concerning the observation and touching of the students: obscene videos on the mobile device of the teacher.

After the complaint had been lodged, police authorities joined hands with the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and went to the school to speak with the youngsters. Just an hour of discussion made people tell their stories, and as a result, they called the Ural police station.

Inspector Gopal Dhole admitted to receiving a call from CWC members and added that a team proceeded to take statements from students. The principal of Central Point Education Society, Ravindra Samdur, said he was shocked when he learned of the allegations, adding that the school management had no knowledge of the same until the CWC visit.

The Akola Superintendent of Police, Bachchan Singh, said that the statements have been recorded, and a complaint against Sardar has been lodged under the relevant sections of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita and the POCSO Act. With the complaint lodged, a further investigation will be conducted.

Regarding the said incident, the accused teacher has been terminated, while the school headmaster and the center head have been suspended by the district administration. The CEO of Akola Zilla Parishad, B. Vaishnavi, also called for the principals, teachers, cooks, and students to be accountable for their actions, while former members of the Women’s Commission Asha Mirje wanted strict action against the teacher, among others.
