Tensions escalate over Kejriwal’s health in Tihar jail

In a brewing political rivalry, the Delhi Lieutenant Governor, VK Saxena, said that jailed Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is unwell and currently in judicial custody in Tihar Jail.

In a letter to the Chief Secretary, Naresh Kumar, LG accused Mr Kejriwal of ‘possibly avoiding’ the medical diet and prescribed medications, including insulin, for Type II Diabetes Mellitus. The letter also lists differences in the medical observation, stating diverse glucometer tests and continuous glucose monitoring systems (CGMS).

The LG’s office has also stressed a 2 kg weight loss since Mr Kejriwal’s surrender on June 2, 2024, owing to “insufficient calorie intake. ”

In response to this the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has strongly dismissed the claims of the LG. Atishi said Mr Kejriwal’s blood sugar had dipped perilously below 50 mg/dL several times for him to risk falling into a coma or suffering a brain stroke.

AAP leader Sanjay Singh flagged the LG’s letter on social media, saying it did not make sense for a person to intentionally bring down their sugar levels at night, which he called very dangerous.

Singh rose to express his anger at the statement made by LG Sir, “What kind of joke are you making, LG Sir? Would a man reduce his sugar levels at night? This is very dangerous. LG Sir, if you do not know about the disease, then you should not write such a letter. God forbid such a time ever comes to you. ”

The High Court of Delhi recently issued a stay order to a trial court order that had recently allowed Mr. Kejriwal on bail in the Excise Policy Money Laundering Case, bringing an application by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). A new hearing date of August 7 has been set to allow the court to deliberate more on the issue.

However, continuing the political polarization, the attention remains on the health conditions of the jailed Chief Minister, with the statements and anxieties of both parties.
