Terrorists attack army vehicles in J&K’s Akhnoor

At least three terrorists fired at least 15-20 rounds on Indian Army vehicles and defaced idols in a local temple in the Jogwan area of Akhnoor on Monday morning.

At least three terrorists who the locals saw had fired 15-20 rounds on Indian Army vehicles, including an ambulance in the area at the Battle area near the Shivassan temple in Jogwan at 7:25 am today, although no casualties have been reported. It is known that this place has a history of the infiltration of terrorists from the Munawar Tawi River and attacks on Army personnel.

Op ASANTerorists opened fire upon a convoy near Asan, Sunderbani Sector, with an attempt to target army vehicles in the morning hours. Quick retaliation by the troops ensured that an effort could be foiled without anyone getting injured. The area has been cordoned off, and a search operation is underway to neutralize it.

The terrorists also vandalized idols in the Hassan temple in the region. The Indian Army has cordoned the area and initiated a search operation for the perpetrators, though any contact is yet to be established.

The attack at Akhnoor came on Monday, days after terrorists had opened fire on an Army vehicle 6km from the tourist hotspot of Gulmarg in the Bota Pathri area. They killed two soldiers and two Army porters on Thursday. Another porter and a soldier were injured in the attack.

Security forces on Friday employed drones and helicopters for the massive search operation in the area and along the LoC in the Gulmarg sector. Security forces were also using human and technical intelligence inputs to help the search operation launched to trace and neutralize the terrorists behind the attack, officials said.
