In a shocking revelation, four out of the six terrorists killed in the twin encounters in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district were found to be living in a concealed bunker inside a cupboard in the Chinigam Frisal area. The involvement of residents in sheltering the militants is also being investigated by the authorities.
A video circulating on social media shows security personnel dismantling a cupboard to unveil the hidden bunker where the terrorists were taking refuge. According to officials, all the slain militants were affiliated with the Pakistan-linked Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist outfit, including one who served as the local commander.
The twin encounters, which began on July 6th, resulted in the deaths of two Army soldiers, including an elite para commando. “The bodies of two terrorists were recovered from the Modergam encounter site, while four bodies were recovered from the Chinigam site on Sunday,” stated the officials.
Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police RR Swain hailed the success of the operations as a significant milestone in the efforts to strengthen the security environment in the region. “This indicates that the security architecture and people’s involvement are leading to the flow of human intelligence, and this fight (against terror) will be taken to its logical conclusion,” he added.
The discovery of the concealed bunker within a household cupboard has once again highlighted the modus operandi adopted by terrorists to evade security forces and the need for heightened vigilance to root out the menace of terrorism from the valley.
