S, & Vishnoi, S. (2021, June 2). Tharoor mocks BJP after the recent United Kingdom elections in which Labour Party got a Thumping Victory: ‘Congress MP Shashi Tharoor’ trolls BJP in India.
When the Labour Party coasted home to a decisive victory with 47.2 per cent of the vote share and 412 out of the 650 seats in the UK House of Commons, Tharoor, in a tweet that was previously named on X (formerly known as Twitter), light-heartedly said, “Finally ‘ab ki baar 400 paar’ happened — but in another country!”
This was to the BJP’s campaign ahead of the 2019 parliamentary polls in India, where the party had promised to capture a minimum of 300 of the 545 total seats for the lower house of the Indian parliament, which though the party indeed clinched 293, it still falls short of the reference.
In the most recent UK elections, which have just been completed, the Keir Starmer-led Labour Party won to conclude 14 years of the Conservatives’ rule. The reported vote share remained at thirty-three for the party in question.
7% of the total votes, and considering the number of seats, Rishi Sunak Conservatives got 121 seats only with 23. Remember, this means that of the total votes that are cast, a particular candidate should receive 7%.
The elements of contemporary politics in Tharoor’s face-off with the BJP government through social media also pointed out the active concern that Indian politicians have regarding election results of other countries, as these countries have strong relations with India.
Due to the recent action by Tharoor and the results of the UK elections, reactions have emerged on the effects on the India-UK relation and the giant’s possibility of a revival in the regional political system.
