Apples, cucumbers, an empty plastic case, and a glass were lying on a sofa inside the bank.
Surat: A group of burglars drilled a big hole in a wall of one of the branches of the Union Bank of India here, broke six lockers, and ran off with bags full of cash, ornaments, and other precious items, reportedly worth lakhs of rupees, without raising the slightest alarm.
The robbery occurred on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, and the banking staff discovered it on Tuesday morning. Inside the bank, pieces of apple, cucumbers, an empty plastic case, and a glass were lying on a sofa.
A few reports indicate that an electric cutter believed to be used in cutting the locker’s lock, was also found at the scene.
The thieves reportedly entered the locker room by making a two-foot hole in a wall. To avoid being caught, they disabled surveillance cameras and destroyed the bank’s alarm.
