All three terrorists involved in firing at an Army convoy in Jammu and Kashmir’s Akhnoor sector were killed on Tuesday morning.
One of the three terrorists who fired at an army ambulance that was part of a convoy moving near the Line of Control (LoC) on Monday morning was killed by the evening in an operation launched by the special forces and NSG commandos.
The terrorists also disfigured the idols in the Hassan temple located in the area, following which the Indian Army sealed the area and launched a search operation to trace the perpetrators.
For the first time, the Army has pressed its four BMP-II infantry combat vehicles for sanitization and sealing the cordon around the attack site. At the same time, helicopters and drones were also mobilized to trace the hiding terrorists.
Army Dog ‘Phantom’ Killed In Encounter During the operation, a four-year-old valiant Army dog, Phantom, who was part of the operation, died after being hit by a bullet.
According to officials, as the security forces closed in on the trapped terrorists, Phantom drew enemy fire, causing fatal injuries to the canine.
The Akhnoor incident comes after a series of terrorist attacks unfolded in Jammu and Kashmir in the past few months, forcing the central government to launch several combing operations in the valley.
The latest militant attack in the Gulmarg area of Jammu and Kashmir last week left four persons, including two army jawans and two local porters, dead.
In another incident, seven, including non-locals, were killed when terrorists struck a tunnel construction site on the Srinagar-Leh national highway in the Ganderbal district.
