Tina Dabi leads raid on alleged sex racket in Barmer

Tina Dabi is one of India’s most well-known civil services officers and has recently been appointed to head to Barmer, Rajasthan, as a district collector. Since her appointment last month, Dabi has not been sitting on a seat at her office desk but is immensely involved with the public by sweeping streets related to her cleanliness drive and carrying out negligence during hospital inspections, among others. Almost everything she does is transmitted on social media and keeps people’s eyes hooked.

Dabi raided a suspected spa center operating an alleged sex racket on Saturday morning. The raid came during the cleaning campaign near Sadar police station when Dabi reached there for a surprise inspection. She had asked the officials to take her inside the spa center but found its doors locked.

When, despite several attempts to knock and get a response, no one opened the door, the situation turned suspicious. On the premises, police through the roof had forcibly opened the door and found five women and two men in compromising positions inside the facility. All were taken into custody for alleged prostitution and were continuously being questioned by the police.

Videos of the raid have surfaced where several women are seen trying to cover their faces while being taken into custody. The residents of Barmer have been complaining for quite some time about the various spa centers operating in the area, saying they were into unethical activities. Today’s raid is a big step taken by the police to take effective cognizance of these complaints.

According to sources, most places get licenses from the Labor Department and function undercover as some other business. It is alleged that they bring in women from states like West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and even Nepal and run prostitution under the cover of the spa. Police took action in the past, but due to a lack of follow-up action, operations reportedly started again after a brief closure.

Apart from her police work, Tina Dabi has started a new scheme called “Navo Barmer,” or “New Barmer.” By using sophisticated technology in managing the waste, this scheme aims at cleaning the city and thus supplements the community service she does.
