Top cop demoted over moral misconduct in Uttar Pradesh

This shocking event has even shaken the Uttar Pradesh police force whereby three years ago, Deputy Superintendent Kripa Shankar Kanaujia caught McCormack in a compromising position with a female constable at a hotel.

Kanaujia, who was transferred to the elite rank of Circle Officer (CO) in Bighapur in Unnao district, has been posted to the 26th Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) battalion in Gorakhpur.

As the former officer suggested, its decline started in July of 2021 when the officer with numerous followers disappeared ‘on the callbacks’ in an official leave under the tag of a family circumstance. ‘

Instead of going home, Kanaujia booked a room in a hotel in Kanpur and took a female constable with him on his protection duty; Kanaujia also switched off both his mobile and the mobile he used for official work.

Some days later, when the wife of the CO, suspected to have fled from home without informing his family, became worried, she reported the issue to SP Unnao. The situation became even worse when a surveillance team observed that the mobile network belonging to Kanaujia died when he invaded the Kanpur hotel.

Unnao Police immediately rushed to the hotel in response to the complaint, and they caught the CO and the female constable. Their entry to the house was also on camera, with CCTV cameras available to prove their involvement throughout the investigation.

After that, a report to the government has been made. According to this report, the investigation was conducted to determine the root cause of the incident and describe the internal problems associated with the incident.

On consideration, the government has recommended that Kripa Shankar Kanaujia be reduced to rank from SI to Constable, which the ADG Administration has acted on immediately.

The tragic story of an ex-officer, now a convicted felon, brings an important message of concern about ethical codes required from officers and the penalties one who breaks those codes receives.
