A police patrol on routine checking duty caught the violators near Moti Nagar in West Delhi. It seized 500 sniper rifle bullets that were being transported on a motorcycle, the press reported on Monday.
The event happened Saturday night when traffic officers flashed their lights at one motorcycle rider to pull over. Subsequently, the rider increased his speed and tried to escape from the police, leading to a chase. The suspect was seen driving a motorcycle in the incident and fled on the same, leaving behind the motorcycle near a particular traffic signal.
During a search of the said motorcycle, which was abandoned, three cops found a bag full of 10 boxes packed with 500 live cartridges of 7. 62 caliber. The managing director informed the Moti Nagar police station, after which the cartridges were confiscated.
An FIR under the Arms Act has been registered, and many teams have been constituted to nab the accused. The police are also analyzing the CCTV footage and determining the direction of flight of the fleeing person.
Experts noted that 7. Instrumentality includes 62 caliber cartridges with usage in AK-47 rifles self-loading rifles (SLRs) light machine guns as well as sniper rifles. Still, one officer said that these bullets have tiny injuries on the entrance but might cause much damage at the time of exit and wondered about the consequences if these bullets can be recovered. That is why the authorities are optimistic that the suspect will be caught shortly since every bullet has serial numbers.
