At a rather serious press briefing, Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena stated that he is anguished and condemnable over the unfortunate loss of lives of four civil services rejected aspirants in Delhi. The incidents which happened in two different occurrences have provoked a large-scale concern, and the LG described the incidents as ‘most unfortunate and unacceptable’.
In their report, the LG attributed these incidents to criminal neglect and failure of basic maintenance and administration by the concerned agencies and departments. He termed the situation one of the symptoms of the ‘misgovernance malaise’ that Delhi has suffered from in the past decade or so.
The LG’s statement also raised questions and doubts about coaching institutions and landlords, the latter of whom are accused of not making attempts to secure the safety of students. The LG has urged the Divisional Commissioner to give a report on the occurrence by Tuesday and assured that the authorities behind this ill-management will be punished.
The untimely demise of young souls has again brought the grim reality into the mainframe regarding the bad state of affairs in terms of the rising educational system in the national capital.
While the authorities assure putting an end to such tragedies, the families of the victims and the whole population wait for justice and some actions that could help avoid the repetition.
