Tragedy in Rajinder Nagar: Three killed in coaching center basement flood

To everyone’s dismay, three aspiring civil servants died an avoidable death in the Rajinder Nagar area of Delhi, as they drowned to death in the water that had accumulated in the basement where they had been taking their coaching classes.

Tania Soni (25 years) and Shreya Yadav (25 years) both fell to the suspect’s bullets along with Navin Delvin (28 years), who were all part of the Rau’s IAS Study Circle at the time of the shooting.

The coaching center entered into an agreement regarding the NOC with the MCD in August 2021. While it was involved in providing coaching classes, the property’s basement had been used as a library despite the NOC having prohibited such usage.

According to the building bylaws, proper provisions should be made so that surface water does not penetrate into the basement; however, there was only an exit/entryway.

This has caused a lot of stink, and Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi has demanded an investigation to establish whether any of the MCD officials were negligent in a way that contributed to the occurrence of this mishap. The police have filed a case, and the owner cum coordinator of the coaching center is now in police custody.

The sad occurrence has also led to political verbiage as the BJP continues with the blame game targeting AAP, which is in charge of the Delhi government and MCD. Thus, the given tragedy has once again served as evidence of the necessity for tighter observance of the safety norms.
