At least four people died when a vehicle carrying six passengers fell into a deep gorge in the Massu-Padder area of Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said.
The accident occurred late on Saturday night after which the search teams worked tirelessly to look for the two missing persons, including the driver of the vehicle.
Union Minister and Udhampur MP Jitendra Singh said he was pained by the incident. In a post on X, he wrote, “Saddened to learn that four passengers traveling in the vehicle have been found dead on the spot. Two other persons including the driver are still unaccounted for. My sincere condolences to the bereaved families.”
Singh further said that he was in touch with Kishtwar Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Kumar Shavan to expedite the rescue operations. “Rescue teams have been deployed, and I am getting regular updates,” he said.
Recovery operations were underway, with ambulances reaching the site. In a video shot by eyewitnesses, rescue workers were seen retrieving bodies from the gorge. Specific details on the vehicle which was involved in this accident have so far not been confirmed by the authorities.
Earlier this month, a similar accident had occurred in which five soldiers had been killed while five others had been injured when the vehicle of the Army strayed and fell into the gorge in the area of Balnoi village of Mendhar, Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir.
