Tragic bus-van collision in Raichur claims two student lives

There was a fatal irony on Thursday morning when a school van and a Karnataka state transport bus had a head-on collision at Raichur; 2 students were killed while 15 other students were critically injured. The attack happened near the Kapagal area; the van, which was carrying 32 students from Loyola School, Manvi town, was involved, and all the students were from different villages.

SP of District Puttamadaiah confirmed that on the spot at the crash scene, two students were dead. All of the men who were critically injured in the accident were admitted to the RIMS hospital, and five other students have been admitted to a governmental hospital.

After meeting the injured students in hospitals, the Raichur Deputy Commissioner Nitish K said that ₹5 lakh would be given to the next of kin of those who died, drawn from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Also, State Road Transport Corporation has assured to provide the families that lost their loved ones in the tragedy with necessary financial aid.

Manvi police inspector Veerabhadraiah Hiremath informed that a case has been registered against both drivers involved in the case for rash and negligent driving. However, he added that more major injuries were found around the driver’s side, where children were seated.
