Tragic discovery: two dead found in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district after anti-CAA rally

In a saddening revelation, two live bodies were discovered along the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya in the early evening of Wednesday. The protest started after an anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) jointly organized by the Khasi Students’ Union(KSU)and other pressure groups rallies. The local administration told reporters that the tragedy transpired in Ichamati and Dalda regions of the Indo‐Bangladesh border.

Having only publicised the sad news in a message via WhatsApp at 11:59 PM by the SP (Rituraj Ravi) of East Khasi Hills Department (SP) to media personnel, grim news was disseminated. He has held no secrets and just showed that the bodies of L. Esan Sing and L. Sujit Dutta were found at two places- Ichamati and Dalda. What happened and how these destitute individuals passed on is still unknown, and investigation processes like inquest and post-mortem procedures are yet to be completed.

Upon the incidence of theft, there has been a swifter emergency response by the security operatives from the Police subdivision of Shillong, district offices, among others, who have swung into action to ascertain the level of damage and render aid to the victim.

To avoid further deterioration, the government has transmitted to all the leaders of senior police forces within the state, who are supposed to enforce vigilant and tightened patrolling to uphold law and order within their areas of jurisdiction. The authorities have recommended Tuesday for this purpose to cool down and bring innocent youths back to their homes after people have cooled down and carry arms have been returned.

The event should be a warning for the other regions since it gives reasons for fear of repeating that. Hence, it is necessary to investigate it systematically and quickly. The authorities, with the background information about the factors that led to the deaths, continue their investigation, leaving the community in suspense, hoping that the law will be on their side.
