A tragic firecracker accident is being reported in the Eluru district of Andhra Pradesh, in which one died and six were injured. The incident happened when a man carrying a consignment of ‘onion bombs’ meant for Diwali on a two-wheeler went out of control and hit a pothole near a local temple. According to reports, ‘Onion bombs’ may be as deadly as an Improvised Explosive Device, IED.
CCTV cameras captured the attack and showed two men riding on a white scooter in what looks like a very narrow street at about 12:17 PM. As they approach an intersection where the street opens up, the bike explodes near a bunch of five to six men gathered at the junction.
The blast has sent thick, dark grey smoke across the site. Pieces of debris and bits of paper were flying in the air. As the smoke began to disperse, two men-crazily enough-were seen running away unscathed while parts of the motorbike and human remains had been strewn around.
The victim was identified as Sudhakar, and gory images at the scene show severe injuries and destruction. The injured were immediately sent to the district hospital, and two were considered critical. Local police reached the spot, registered a case, and investigated the incident.
